A ground breaking piece of work according to our Director Professor John Edwards, a co-author of this new methodology. “Improving the standard and consistency of damp surveys is long overdue and this is a natural extension of what we say in BS 7913” according to Professor Edwards who lead in the development of BS 7913: 2013. Professor Edwards added: “I first undertook proper moisture surveys of buildings in 1981 as a trainee building surveyor and have since witnessed an ill informed approach adopted by most of the industry and I hope that this will now change”. The methodology was published earlier this week and was initiated by the RICS who pulled together a group of five leading experts in the analysis of moisture and dampness to advise and produce this authoritative document. The methodology is an agreement between the RICS, Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland, Cadw and the trade body representing damp proofing contractors, the Property Care Association. It is hoped that this will be the start of a major change, but there are concerns about competencies of some surveyors and training will be required. It is expected that other organisations will soon come on board and sign up to using this methodology. The methodology can be downloaded FREE here.
