A one day course on the Understanding of Dampness and Flooding in buildings has just been launched. It has been developed and will be delivered by Professor John Edwards, who first started analysing buildings and their environmental conditions in 1981 and has since worked on castles, cathedrals as well as ordinary dwellings of all ages. The primary focus is looking for the causes of dampness with appropriate methods and then finding the optimum solutions. It will look at the common methods of dealing with dampness but also the need for taking an holistic approach. Different contexts will be considered and this includes the vital importance of dealing with dampness issues in the management of buildings which includes life style issues and prior to undertaking refurbishment and retrofit where dampness issues can help to steer the design and implementation. British Standards, Building Regulations, latest research and other guidance and standards will be referred to. The courses are delivered by the Environment Study Centre.
