“BS 7913 could be regarded as the key document for construction professionals working on conservation projects. It should be the first point of reference for anyone starting out.” This is according to Paul Wankiewicz of the National Trust and see the full article in latest edition of ‘Construction Manager’. Lead author of BS 7913: 2013 is Edwards Hart Director Professor John Edwards who said: “Although this is a British Standard, it is international in its approach and context and can be used anywhere in the world and embraces ICOMOS standards, guidance and charters”. Professor Edwards added: “Not only do we practice this in our own business, but we teach building conservation through it, which includes the CIOB 2-day Understanding Building Conservation course currently delivered in the UK and Ireland”. The course is available for individuals to book and as an in-house course. It also provides entry into the CIOB Building Conservation Certification scheme, which is the only scheme of its kind that is open to individuals working for building contractors to join as well as those in consultancy, academia and working as consultants.
