Since November 2016 nearly 100 individuals have participated in the CIOB’s 2-day Understanding Building Conservation Course, which is led by our Director Professor John Edwards. Nine dates have been set for 2017 and for the first time they will take place outside London, with Stirling in Scotland next (17th and 18th January) and then in Dublin in February (21st and 22nd). The next course in London takes place on the 22nd and 23rd January. According to Professor Edwards: ‘We have had a huge range of individuals attending this course from relatively inexperienced builders to individuals from the National Trust’. Edwards added: ‘We do cover a lot in two days, but we also manage to include group exercises from different perspectives on things that range from heritage impact assessments to managing quality on site’. The course is set around the ICOMOS (International Council for Monuments and Sites) training and education guidelines and therefore follows internationally recognised criteria, whilst also following the practical advice in BS 7913: 2013 and uses real life Edwards Hart case studies.
