The failings in the retrofit market led to the ‘Every Home Counts’ report led by the CEO of BRE. The output from the report was the setting up of groups to tackle various aspects ranging from consumer protection to specification and implementation. This includes the review of the publicly available specifications knows as PAS 2030 and PAS 2035 with Edwards Hart Director Professor John Edwards appointed onto the steering groups to steer the appropriateness and quality of these specifications.

Edwards Hart take an holistic approach to energy efficiency and retrofit with current project work that includes the detailed analysis and design of energy efficiency improvements that can just involve existing fabric improvement with renewable energy technologies to more intensive interventions such as solid wall insulation. This always involves not just technical and building use considerations but also cultural significance issues as well where traditional and historic buildings are concerned. These are the requirements in any retrofit project and is detailed in the guidance that Professor Edwards has helped to develop and also published in the Green Retrofit edition of the journal Context in 2017 where the retrofit process is described.
